What is a badaude ?
A badaude is a passerby, a wanderer. There are moments in the day when one decides to get some fresh air, to recharge, to step outside. We listen to the street, the chatter, our steps no longer our own are guided by sounds, sensations, and chance. One becomes a badaude for the duration of a stroll. What was her soundscape like centuries ago? This question forms the cornerstone of the ensemble’s approach.
Why?
Our motivation is to invite the audience to become a temporary badaude. To offer them a musical journey, immersing them in the heart of the Baroque period with its dances, festivities, folklore, its melancholy, and its uniquely expressive character.
How?
This journey is always undertaken through the lens of in-depth research and the ensemble’s expertise in early music. The study of movement in the Baroque era leads the ensemble to delve into creation as well. Indeed, one of its driving forces is to emphasize the living, multifaceted nature of baroque music through arrangements and staged performances, drawing on its knowledge and practice while engaging in interdisciplinary partnerships. This vision is reflected in the ensemble’s bold and varied program choices. Its exploration of new performance spaces also inspires an interest in theater, dance, and oral musical traditions.
And so?
The thoughtful variety and blending of registers showcased during performances define the ensemble’s concerts—a refined journey that captivates with its diversity and subtlety. La Badaude is an invitation to discovery and wandering, promising a rich and enthralling musical experience.
